Professional Development Support for Technology in 2011

Cliff is supported by a team of four National Technology Professional Development Facilitators:
- Malcolm Howard (University of Waikato), who provides specialist professional development support within NCEA to teachers in Digital Technology – see profile
- Paul Neveldsen (Team Solutions, University of Auckland), specialist support to Years 7-8 Technology teachers – see profile
- Lesley Pearce (Team Solutions, University of Auckland), specialist support within NCEA to teachers in Resistant Materials, and Design and Visual Communication Technology – see profile
- Cheryl Pym (University of Otago ), specialist support within NCEA to teachers in Food and Textiles Technology – see profile
The team's priorities for 2011 are to:
- to assist Technology advisers to develop a nationally coherent professional development plan that centres on increasing teacher understandings about and competency in delivering quality teaching and learning programmes to students in Technology;
- to embed NCEA Levels 1 and 2 achievement standards as assessment tools in Technology teaching and learning programmes;
- to continue to encourage and support the development of a national professional learning community for Technology;
- to support the continued development of Technology resources for publication on Techlink – www.techlink.org.nz – a website hosted by IPENZ with the support of Ministry of Education funding;
- to ensure teacher awareness of strategies and approaches for Māori and Pasifika students, for students who are speakers of languages other than English, and for students with special education needs; and
- to address the specific literacy and numeracy demands involved in teaching and assessing Technology.
