Where to from here?
Better sedation management and less mechanical ventilation can shorten patients’ stay in intensive care. Consequently, the Infuse-Rite is attracting a lot of interest, especially from District Health Boards who can see potential budget benefits and a salve for their bed shortage problems.
Mr Dove also has plans to market the Infuse-Rite overseas, but would like to see them used in all New Zealand ICUs before making the leap to international markets. And as innovation is the name of the game, the research team are continually looking for ways of improving their device: “We are comfortable with where the product is at the moment, but it would be even better if we could incorporate it into an infusion pump.”
