In March 2004, Mooring Systems Ltd entered into an alliance with Dutch multinational Cavotec Group, granting them the licence for the manufacture, the marketing and the servicing of their products. In September 2006 Mooring Systems and Cavotec agreed to merge. On completion, MSL will be renamed Cavotec MSL Holdings, but will continue to be a New Zealand incorporated and publicly-listed company, headquartered in Christchurch.
