Background

Colin Lawrence

Colin Lawrence

Colin Lawrence had spent most of his career working as a toolmaker in a variety of companies before starting his own company doing sub-contract machining – small batch precision manufacture primarily for the defence industry. He immigrated to New Zealand in 2001, working as general manager in a Mount Maunganui firm.

He had always enjoyed the teaching aspects of his work, such as apprentice training, and decided to do teacher training in 2003. A teaching practice at Tauranga Boys' College led to his appointment as a Graphics and Technology teacher the following year.

This Decile 6 school had a roll of approximately 1515 boys in 2006. Under the Technology umbrella Year 11 students may choose to do Product Technology, Graphics, Food and Nutrition or Industry Trades. All students entering Year 11 will have done a compulsory Technology course in Year 9 and selected a Technology course in Year 10.
