What Next?
Having established the basic structure of Kiwi Made, Wendy plans to vary it from year to year depending on what she feels like tackling or what opportunities arise. She comments that one of the problems is that there are almost too many things they could do now with making fabric and that she consciously trimmed the unit back in 2006, to prevent it getting too diverse and to keep it manageable.
Wendy plans to continue her own 'upskilling' in Textiles, something she also finds a pleasure activity. This might include finding relevant workshops and events where the people who attend, she says, are tremendous resource people and mentors. Often these events are not industry based but organised by crafts people so there are no rules "they might take one idea and try it out in other mediums".
Other plans are to challenge the more able Year 12/13 students in a different way so that they are concentrating more in a product/process development manner.
