COP Planning for practice Effective consultation was a key component in the success of the project and continuation of the very close working relationship between Transit NZ, MWH and Tyco following commissioning, which has resulted in further optimisation of the system during the first year of operation.   • The high level of satisfaction of emergency services and other key road user groups maintained during construction, commissioning and now through operation.
  • Road user safety is a key project outcome. Very good safety record during installation and commissioning.
  • A 29% reduction in the total number of crashes in 2001 compared with the average number of crashes per year over the period 1996 – 2000.
  • A 20% reduction in the response times for emergency services attending incidents in the Ngauranga Gorge.
  • A 20% increase in overall incidents, which would have previously gone undetected.
  • Increased information sharing enabling drivers to make more informed decisions about their travel has significantly reduced driver frustration and delays.
